经编常以涤纶、锦纶、维纶、丙纶等合纤长丝为原料，也有用棉、毛、丝、麻、化纤及其混纺纱作原料织制的。它具有纵尺寸稳定性好，织物挺括，脱散性小，不会卷边，透气性好等优点。但其横向延伸、弹性和柔软性不如纬编针织物。这种面料可以用来做男女装，但是用来做运动服、翻领T恤衫、睡衣裤居多。
